No gang-linked murders in El Salvador in first half of October

San Salvador, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador registered today 12 days with no reports of gang-linked homicides, as the first fortnight of October comes to a close, the National Civil Police (PNC) said.

A police release attributed the success to the Territorial Control Plan (PCT), launched on June 20, 2019, and then extended to the emergency regime approved by the Legislative Assembly on March 27, 2022.

To date, the emergency regime has allowed the authorities to capture more than 81,500 gang members and alleged collaborators, as well as seizing of large amounts of firearms, drugs and other supplies used by criminal groups.

The months of January, February and June with this year also showed similar low figures, totaling 24 murder-free days.

Currently, El Salvador boasts the citizens safety as the key to attract foreign investment, improve the economy and develop international tourism.
