Spokesman Wu Qian described the action as a serious violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
The spokesman also reaffirmed the Chinese government’s stance in rejecting any kind of aggression against UN peacekeepers.
“We demand that the incident be investigated and that measures be taken to ensure that this kind of attack does not happen again,” he said.
He also urged the parties involved in the conflict to ensure the safety of the peacekeepers’ personnel and assets.
Regarding the situation of the Chinese peacekeeping contingent deployed in Lebanon, Wu reported that the troops are safe and that Beijing is closely monitoring the local situation to ensure the protection of its troops.
“Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon are safe.”
“We will take additional measures to enhance our defense and security capabilities,” he concluded.
