Cuban film show in Caracas to celebrate National Culture Day

Caracas, Oct 15 (Prensa Latina) In a joint effort by the Cuban Embassy in Venezuela and the local Cinematheque, Cuban films will be screened here from October 16 through 20, to celebrate Cuba's Culture Day on the 20th.

The National Cinematheque, located at the Museum of Fine Arts, will host the screening of classical and contemporary motion pictures from Cuba, highlighting the ties of cultural brotherhood and cooperation between both countries.

The feature film “De Cierta Manera” (1974), by director Sara Gómez, will open the show on Wednesday, diplomatic sources said.

Other films to be screened will be “AM-PM” (2023), directed by Alejandro Gil and scripted by Amílcar Salatti; and “Oscuros Amores” (2022), by Gerardo Chijona.

The documentary “Maisinicú, Medio Siglo Después,” produced last year under direction by Mitchell Lobaina to pay tribute to the classic “El Hombre de Maisinicú” (1973), by Manuel Pérez, will also be presented.

The event will be closed by “El Mayor” (2018), directed by Rigoberto López and inspired by the life of Major General Ignacio Agramonte, who led the Mambi Army in the central region of Camagüey.

The event will pay tribute to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) and to Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier, on his 120th birthday.
