Ecuador may witness fall in power outages by November

Quito, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) Ecuador's Energy and Mines Minister Ines Manzano stated on Monday that blackouts across this nation could decrease between November and December.

“I am aware of the people’s indignation but this is something that we are going to control, improve, and compensate for,” she reiterated.

Manzano emphasized that this week will be critical for the country’s energy situation, although she indicated that current drought may be offset by “a lot of rains,” and the Coca Codo Sinclair hydroelectric plant’s good performance, which could reduce power cuts.

The minister also expressed that the current Government is promoting six renewable energy projects: four with solar panels and two hydroelectric plants. The official also stressed that work sessions are being conducted with industries and distributors to coordinate the planning of energy rationing.

Over the week end, as part of the national holiday, the energy crisis affected national tourism, Luis Tenempaguay, vice president of the Santa Elena Chamber of Tourism, warned in statements to the Ecuavisa channel.
