The intellectual and president of Casa de las Américas, Abel Prieto; the singer and composer Beatriz Márquez, National Music Award 2015; and the filmmaker, documentary maker and screenwriter Manuel Herrera, National Film Award 2022, are among the winners, according to what Yasel Toledo, national president of the AHS, published on his Facebook profile this Monday.
At the awards ceremony, which will take place at the José Martí Memorial, the visual artist Zaida del Río, National Prize for Plastic Arts 2023, will also receive the high distinction; the composer and pianist José María Vitier, National Music Award 2021; as well as the artistic director, dancer, teacher and choreographer Santiago Alfonso, National Dance Award 2006.
Last but not least, the award will be presented to the dance teacher and instructor Elida Justiz, who was awarded the Distinction for National Culture in 2003; and the actor, composer, playwright and director of the Teatro Tuyo company, Ernesto Parra.
The presentation of the important recognition will coincide with the event for the 38th anniversary of the AHS, which will take place on Friday afternoon with the participation of the National Council of the organization, other invited creators and representatives of various institutions, highlights the publication.
Debates, literary gatherings, artistic presentations in communities and schools, exchanges with members of the organization in previous stages, among other activities, celebrate this new anniversary.
Made up of young creators from all provinces, the National Council of the AHS will meet from October 16 to 18 in the Cuban capital, to analyze the role and projections of the organization that brings together the artistic avant-garde in the country, the text adds.
The participants will enjoy a concert at Casa de las Américas on Wednesday 16, the following day they will visit the National Museum of Fine Arts, the headquarters of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and will talk with the intellectual Abel Prieto in the space Encuentro con…, hosted by the journalist Magda Resik in the Salón de Mayo of the Pabellón Cuba.
The program of activities also includes an artistic performance at the University of the Arts (ISA), within the space Dándole a la manigueta, which the AHS carries out every month at the academic institution.
The AHS was created in 1986, as a result of the union between the New Trova Movement and the Hermanos Saíz and Raúl Gómez García brigades. It has a wide platform of scholarships and awards, promotion and events throughout the country, concludes the publication by Yasel Toledo.
