The SCO, of which China is a founding member, promotes a new concept of cooperation, development, security, civilization and global governance, with global recognition.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Pan Deng, professor at the University of Political Science and Law, stressed that it is the largest regional organization with the greatest potential in the world.
“It advocates partnership and non-alignment, rejects Cold War thinking and the zero-sum concept, promotes equality between large and small countries and establishes a broad network of partnerships,” he said.
Among the organization’s challenges, the expert pointed to less effective decision-making and increasing internal contradictions, exacerbated by external interference.
China is expected to gather consensus, promote multilateral talks and propose strategies for the future of the SCO, since Beijing holds the rotating presidency of this mechanism.
As part of its agenda within the SCO, it is also promoting the Belt and Road Initiative.
This mega-project promotes the creation of infrastructure, trade and investment in Eurasia, stimulates economic growth and strengthens regional stability.
