Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his greetings to the country’s elderly and expressed his hope that the elderly will be well provided for, enjoy their lives and continue their activities.
Xi made the statements in a letter addressed to representatives of seniors participating in a national volunteer initiative.
The president noted that they constitute a valuable asset both for the Communist Party (CCP) and for the Asian nation, and in this regard, he urged addressing the pressing concerns of older persons.
He also called for improving relevant policies and measures, fostering a sound social environment, ensuring that their well-being and rights are protected, and enabling them to contribute effectively to society.
China’s population aged 60 years or older approached 300 million at the end of 2023. Projections indicate that it will exceed 400 million by 2035 and reach 500 million by 2050.
