Lima, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) opened its 40th session in this capital on Wednesday, dedicated to analyzing the most significant issues for the region's economic and social development.

The United Nations Regional Commission’s most significant two-day meeting will be attended by high-level delegates from the 46 ECLAC member countries.

The meeting’s central theme is “Latin America and the Caribbean Facing Development Traps: Vital Transformations and How to Manage Them,” in a regional context of social demands for change and the emergence of extremely conservative positions in liberal guise in the region.

The first day is called “National Day.” during which experts will address issues such as priority reforms for digital transformation and the private sector’s role as an actor in promoting goods and services for development.

Four roundtable discussions will be held during the meeting in which national authorities, accompanied by regional senior officials and academicians, will analyze the document that sets out the Organization’s position on the event’s agenda.
