Striking workers demand removal of Haiti’s Revenue Service chief

Port-au-Prince, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) Workers on strike in Haiti since September continues today to demand the dismissal of the country's General Director of the Revenue Service, Jean Emmanuel Casséus.

The workers urged the Government and the Presidential Transitional Council to immediately remove Casséus from his post, in order to start talking about the resumption of the institution’s services.

This work stoppage has already exceeded 15 days and the protagonists maintain firm their demands focused on a salary adjustment, the granting of a debit card, training for future officials and medical insurance.

The general and indefinite strike is not only in the capital, but also in the provincial cities, reported Le Facteur Haiti online newspaper.

The strikers sent notice of their displeasure to the General Directorate of Taxes in order to inform the higher level about the decision to carry out the strike, but neither the Prime Minister, Garry Conille, nor the Ministry of Finance made a statement on the workers’ demands.
