The event will take place over two days with the representation of high-level delegates from the 46 member countries of ECLAC.
The central theme of the meeting will be “Latin America and the Caribbean facing the traps of development: Indispensable transformations and how to manage them,” in a regional context of social demands for change and the emergence in the region of extremely conservative positions with a liberal approach.
The first day is called “National Day” because specialists will address issues raised by the host country, such as priority reforms for digital transformation and the role of the private sector as an actor in the promotion of goods and services for development.
Four roundtable discussions will be held during the meeting, in which national authorities, accompanied by senior officials and academics from the region, will analyze the document that sets out the position of this organization on the agenda of the conference.
The roundtable discussions will deal with the development pitfalls of Latin America and the Caribbean and essential transformations; how to achieve higher, inclusive and sustainable growth; the reduction of inequality and to promote inclusion and social mobility, and how to address climate change.
Another central activity will be the dialogue between foreign ministers and other high-level representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean to reflect on the aforementioned topics, the Commission’s proposals and other global initiatives on development.
