El Salvador’s homicides tend to decrease in October

San Salvador, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) El Salvador so far recorded six days without homicides attributable to gangs, according to a report by the National Civil Police (PNC).

Official PNC data from the early hours of this Tuesday morning show that until Monday only one homicide caused by violence had been reported so far this month.

This result allowed the country to reach 203 days without murders in 2024, highlighting January, February and June with 24 days without violent crimes ascribed to gangs.

According to authorities, this achievement is attributed to the Territorial Control Plan, which is supported by the exception regime, a security policy that allowed more than 82,500 gang members and alleged collaborators to remain in prison in the country.

Since President Nayib Bukele took office in 2019 the country accumulates 721 days without murders, of which 608 were achieved under the exception regime, approved on March 27, 2022 and extended 31 times.
