More than 400 incidents have taken place during the course of the special military operation in Ukraine, in which the Ukrainian side used riot control agents in different localities of the Donbass region, Kirilov told the Sputnik news agency.
The officer said that the Ukrainian military used phenacyl chloride and CS gas, in addition to chemical compounds such as chloropicrin, BZ, hydrogen cyanide and cyanogen chloride.
The incidents took place near the towns of Donetsk, Bogdanovka, Gorlovka, Kremennaia, Artemovsk, as well as in the areas of Krasni Liman and Boguslav, Kirilov said on Monday.
The Lieutenant General also denounced the covert use of chemical agents in smoke shells, particularly DM 105 artillery shells in the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region, Russia, on August 11th, which “affected more than 20 persons.”
Kirilov said that Ukraine shows a special interest in substances included in the list of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). This is evidenced by a study conducted under the auspices of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2023 and 2024 with a view to “the creation of compounds to eliminate the consequences of the use of nerve warfare agents such as VX, sarin and soman, and vesicants such as mustard gas,” he said.
