Addressing the opening session of the event, in the city of Punta Cana, Collado said that “here, where the New World is born, also begins the great project of promoting a common tourism agenda for the welfare of our nations,” according to the website of the Presidency.
Collado thanked the ministers attending the international event organized by UN Tourism at the initiative of the Dominican Republic, which seeks to bolster South-South cooperation through investment, the promotion of Creative Industries and Innovation.
On the three-day meeting, high-level sessions will be held, allowing ministers, scholars, experts and industry players from both regions to discuss challenges, investment opportunities, sustainable practices, accessible tourism, innovation, culture and history, as well as opportunities for mutual growth.
The work of the summit kicked off on Thursday with the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue “Building Opportunities between Africa and the Americas.”
Both this debate and the bilateral meetings are aimed at achieving greater cooperation in the sector, according to the organizers.
The program further includes the adoption of the Punta Cana Declaration and the presentation of the paper, “Bridging Continents: Boosting Linkages between Africa and the Americas,” by Peter Cerda, regional vice president of the International Air Transport Association.
