Mexico on the alert ahead of tropical depression

Mexico City, Oct 3 (Prensa Latina) Several Mexican states declared Thursday a state of alert and paralyzed socioeconomic life due to the impending arrival of a tropical depression that is advancing through the Pacific and should strengthen before making landfall in Oaxaca.

According to forecasts, the system could become a tropical storm in the next few hours, increasing the risk of sea penetration, flooding, electrical discharges, mudslides and torrential downpours in the country.

Apart from impacting Oaxaca, its possible path includes the states of Mexico, Michoacan, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Colima, Jalisco, Morelos, Nayarit and Tlaxcala.

Both the meteorological service and the President of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum have urged the population to follow Government guidance, exercise extreme caution and safeguard property to minimize loss of life and property.

In addition, the territories under threat took measures, such as the suspension of classes, interruption of public transportation and work in non-essential sectors.

“More rainfalls are expected in these days, it is not of the severity of Hurricane John a few days ago, but we must take the necessary preventive measures and be attentive to the population,” the president warned on a press conference.
