The tragedy shocked the country beyond its borders, after mass and social media reported that the bus where six teachers and 39 elementary and junior high school students were traveling on Tuesday caught fire.

Only 22 were able to escape and three students remain hospitalized, two of them are reported seriously injured.

Thai police arrested the driver, Saman Chanput, and charged him with reckless driving resulting in death for not stopping the vehicle and leaving the scene of the incident without rendering aid.
