Montevideo, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The Uruguayan government today condemned Iran’s missile attack on Israeli territory, in a statement that silenced the Tel Aviv Army’s aggression against southern Lebanon.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Tehran’s response “could have greater consequences for regional and global stability.”

The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry urged “the parties to avoid actions that further compromise diplomatic efforts to find a negotiated solution to the conflict.”

The statement calls for “due protection and safeguarding of civilian populations in Lebanon, as well as in Israel, the Palestinian territories and the rest of the areas where military actions are taking place.”

“Uruguay requests that the necessary efforts be made for an immediate ceasefire and for the establishment of a diplomatic channel that will channel dialogue, avoid the suffering of thousands of innocent civilians and the worsening of the humanitarian crisis,” the statement concludes.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that the missile attack was a reprisal for the assassination in Tehran of the top figure of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Ismail Haniyeh, and the leader of the Lebanese group Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, a few days ago in Beirut.
