In a statement, on Tuesday to mark the International Day of Older Persons on Tuesday, the statistical institution noted that the elderly account for six percent of the total Palestinian population.
It stressed that 76 percent of them suffer from chronic illnesses that have been exacerbated by the neighboring country’s war campaign, which started in October 2023.
According to the institution, “The chronically ill elderly and the wounded in Gaza are among the groups most affected by the aggression.”
The Bureau of statistics underscored that senior citizens face major challenges that could lead to a deterioration in their health status due to medicine shortages, medical care, and the hardships in accessing hospitals and care centers due to the destruction the war has caused.
