Unilateral sanctions undermine democracy

Havana, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Sanctions and blockades undermine democracy, and are a clear disrespect to the peoples who suffer them and a violation of their sovereignty, Taurai Kandishaya, assistant national secretary for the Commissariat of Zimbabwe reflected here today.

“Interference must end, unilateralism must end; multilateralism is the new path and the new dimension towards a better world”, Kandishaya who traveled to Cuba to participate in the 5th International Congress of Researchers on Youth affirmed in an interview with Prensa Latina.

The recently concluded event under the slogan “Youth and SDGs: the future is today” provided a space for debate on studies related to children, adolescents and young people, in addition to structuring permanent exchange links between researchers and institutions dedicated to serving this sector, among other objectives.

“The future must be inclusive; the future democracy cannot be dictated by those who get their hands dirty with innocent blood. What are we seeing today in Lebanon, in Gaza? That is not the future, that is barbaric backwardness, that is inhumane, that is cruelty,” the Zimbabwean official said.

Kandishaya recalled that the member nations of the Southern African Development Community established October 25 as the International Day of Solidarity with Zimbabwe, to demand the unconditional removal of the sanctions imposed on that country.

“We take the opportunity to also demand the immediate removal of blockades against Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, North Korea, Syria and other countries,” he said.

He reminded Prensa Latina that Cuba supported Zimbabwe’s struggle against colonialism, “and helped us to become the owners of our country”.

Coming to the island -he added- is to be where our independence was born. “As Zimbabwe today faces the same as Cuba, the attacks of Imperialism, it is time for us to remain united to ensure the collapse of global hegemonies led by the United States and its allies,” he stressed.

Zimbabwe and Cuba established diplomatic relations 44 years ago on April 20, 1980. Since then they have cultivated strong ties, and current President Emmerson Mnangagwa advocates strengthening them, said Kandishaya who expressed gratitude to the Cuban government for its continued support to the Zimbabwean people.
