Although Helene, currently a hurricane, is moving away from Cuba it will continue to cause heavy rains on Thursday in the western and central regions.
In Pinar del Río, the westernmost of the provinces, the Federation of Cuban Women called for cleaning and sanitation days in the communities, a call supported by the rest of the mass organizations.
This way they intend to repair the storm-related damages in the territory, where the rains and wind caused flooding, the isolation of several localities and power outages affecting more than 70 thousand households.
Agriculture has also suffered, mainly the tobacco nurseries, which must guarantee planting in October, and vegetable nurseries.
According to the territorial authorities, quoted by the provincial media, the severity of the damages will be accounted for once the rains have completely stopped.
Similar scenario is seen in the southern municipality of Isla de la Juventud, where tobacco nurseries and banana fields were badly hit by gusts.
