President Daniel Noboa asked the Secretariat of Risk Management (SGR) for a feasibility report to study the viability of carrying out the measure that would allow a faster management of resources.
The President, who led the meeting of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), acknowledged that this South American nation is going through the worst stage of drought in 61 years.
Noboa reiterated that those responsible for causing the recent forest fire in Quito will be prosecuted for terrorism and could face a sentence between 19 and 22 years in prison for that crime.
On Wednesday afternoon, the COE declared an emergency in the Ecuadorian capital due to the large-scale fire that left extensive damage to the city since Tuesday.
