The plant located in Marhowra, Bihar, will be responsible for manufacturing Evolution Series ES43ACmi locomotives, with an engine that offers best-in-class fuel efficiency and proven performance in high-temperature environments, the Ministry of Railways said.
This project, the first of this factory, is of strategic importance, as it is aimed at positioning India as a global manufacturing center for this type of transportation.
It is also in line with the Made in India and Make for the World initiatives as part of the goal of turning the South Asian nation into a developed country by 2047, according to the source.
It will also enable the plant to export locomotives of wide standard globally, and will foster long-term job creation, which will benefit the Indian economy. jrr/arm/oda/lrd
