The Deputy Prosecutor’s Office for Probity, Transparency and Anticorruption, which ordered the arrest of the official and seven other executives, cited overpricing in the allocation to four cooperatives and an association of 138 basic equipment for comprehensive health care, reports Teletica channel.
Agents of the Judicial Police searched Esquivel’s residence, before the official volunteered into the precinct herself, following the investigation of the last two months, which police shared with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, of eight suspects now under arrest, revealed the general director of the OIJ, Randall Zuñiga.
Suspects were arrested on Monday morning after 28 raids by the Judicial Police, headed by the Deputy Prosecutor’s Office of Probity, Transparency and Anticorruption, the TV station added.
A few hours later, the authorities took the president of the CCSS to jail in San José’s Goicoechea municipality, said the TV station.
The other seven suspects are officials and former employees of the CCSS, whose job is to manage the material and human resources of the country’s hospitals and other public health entities, according to sources.
