The Angolan president had already forwarded his position, as he spoke the day before at the Summit of the Future, where he stressed that it is not possible to build a balanced, safe and sustainable world in which dignity and access to opportunities are the exclusive benefit of a small group of privileged people.
Lourenço also remarked that the world needs to evolve towards an architecture of peace in which the principle of shared security is upheld and protected, and where no citizen, State, region or geographical area feels protected at the expense of the insecurity of others.
On Monday, the Head of State held a courtesy meeting at the United Nations headquarters with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and signed the UN’s book of honor.
He also headed the meeting of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACP), which discussed the situation in Haiti, in New York, United States, and adopted a Declaration expressing broad solidarity with the Haitian people.
Lourenço, acting president of the organization, referred to the need to provide tangible support to the Haitian people in the midst of persistent serious political instability and deteriorating security, and urged the international community to stand by their side at this time.
