Local authorities in this city informed that in the central province of Henan, from September 17 to 19, most of Shangqiu suffered heavy rainfall that reached up to 625.9 millimeters.

This situation caused flooding in 69 municipalities, according to the city’s meteorology, emergency management and water resources departments.

Official figures put the number of victims at more than 433,000 and 5,119 evacuees.

Although the rains have ceased, some areas of the city continue with serious accumulations of water, meanwhile emergency personnel remain on alert to deal with the situation.

Typhoon Bebinca, the 13th typhoon of the year, made landfall in Shanghai on September 16 and was considered the strongest to hit the metropolis in 75 years.

Although the Chinese National Meteorological Center stopped classifying Bebinca on September 18, its impact caused strong storms in Henan and other regions in the following days.

The day before, the Chinese government allocated 310 million yuan (approximately US$43.97 million) from the central natural disaster relief funds to support rescue and relief work in regions affected by floods and typhoons.
