Declaration of ZEDE as unconstitutional marks week in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) The declaration of unconstitutionality of the known Employment and Economic Development Zones (ZEDE) by the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) of Honduras, marked the news week that concludes on Saturday.

On Friday, by absolute majority, the plenary of the CSJ declared unconstitutional Decrees 236-2012 on the reform of Articles 294, 303 and 329 of the Constitution; as well as 120-2013 containing the Organic Law of the ZEDE, with null and void effects for violating articles of the Constitution.

Honduras’ President, Xiomara Castro, praised the news on X, and she recognized the final judgment of the CSJ and described it as patriotic, historical, fair and legal.

According to the president, justice for the people of this nation is not to sell the Honduran territory in parts, nor to privatize sovereignty.

In this line, the president of the CSJ, Rebeca Lizzette Raquel, expressed that with the repeal of the ZEDE this month, Hondurans celebrate an important advance in the defense of the rule of law and national sovereignty.
