In declarations quoted by Diario El Salvador, the parliamentary leader said the results of the measure “are there and are indisputable” and, he pointed out, security is the precondition to face other important situations.
Guevara advocated that the Legislative Assembly supports with its vote the permanence of the measure despite the fact that opposition sectors assure that its extension in time is unconstitutional and demand another measure that does not violate, allegedly, human rights.
“What works is not touched, now the country has worked thanks to a policy that is and has always been contemplated in the Constitution and that nobody had the courage to do so, he remarked.
He explained that, in almost the entire region of the Americas, the great concern is called insecurity and pointed out that many countries are interested in replicating the security model that President Nayib Bukele is promoting in El Salvador, and it is for this reason that he was invited to speak about the scope of the strategy.
The emergency regime was extended in 30 opportunities in the country as the most effective action to combat the maras or gangs, whose members in number close to 82 thousand are in confinement centers for their criminal actions.
Likewise, El Salvador, considered one of the most violent countries in the world due to its high homicide rate, is now the safest in the western hemisphere with aspirations to reduce the rate in 2024 to 1.5 percent per 100,000 inhabitants.
