Syria brings another natural gas well back on production

Damascus, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Wealth announced today the commissioning of a new natural gas well in the fields of the province of Homs, in the center of this nation.

The Saddad VI gas well returned to production thanks to the efforts of the State Oil Company’s personnel, which will increase its output and contribute to covering part of the shortage of this material in the country, a press release from the Ministry said.

It added that the start-up of the referred well is part of the Ministry’s plan to repair the low productivity oilfields.

Firas Qaddour inspected one of the wells undergoing maintenance operations and reviewed the technical measures adopted and the schedule established to complete the repair process on time.

He praised the commitment of the workers and their ability to overcome the challenges imposed by the exceptional circumstances the country is experiencing as a result of the unilateral coercive measures.

Syria currently produces 10 million cubic meters of gas per day while it needs 18 million cubic meters to run its power plants.

Most of the oil and gas facilities and fields were sabotaged by terrorists or occupied by U.S. forces, forcing the country to import hydrocarbons, despite the fact that before the war it exported them.
