Several opposition deputies blamed the government of President Rodrigo Chaves for contributing to the company’s decision against the construction of the health center in that region, a long-standing demand of its population, the newspaper La República added.

“This is a problem to the health of the people of Cartagena,” National Liberation Party congresswoman Paulina Ramírez, quoted by the newspaper, commented.

The news that caused the frustration of the people of Cartagena came in the form of a letter to the president of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, Marta Esquivel, sent by Desarrolladora Mexicana about its withdrawal from the constructive initiative.

The text transmitted to the authorities that the construction company was desisting from building the new Hospital because of disagreements within the government about the land where the health center would be built, as well as because of fluctuations in the value of the dollar during the last three years, which would affect the work.

The head of the Frente Amplio political party, Antonio Ortega, called for an investigation into the matter, and announced that he will present a motion before Congress for the representatives of the Mexican company to refer to the situation.
