Lacalle Pou is preparing an information campaign and a government document with the objections to the changes proposed by the PIT-CNT trade union center and some social and political groups regarding the social security system.
For this purpose, the President met the day before with the Ministers of Labor and Social Security, Mario Arizti, and of Economy and Finance (MEF), Azucena Arbeleche.
The president of the Banco de Previsión Social (BPS), Alfredo Cabrera, and the main advisor of the pension reform, Rodolfo Saldain, also participated.
Lacalle Pou announced that he will lead the campaign against the plebiscite which proposes to lower the retirement age, to equalize minimum pensions to the salary and to eliminate the companies which manage and profit from retirement and pension funds. Pro-government spokesmen claim that the changes to the current legislation would force an increase in taxes, among other criticisms.
A survey by Equipos Consultores showed that one third of the population is in favor of the proposal, another third rejects it and the rest is undecided.
