Georgia renounces to the tutelage of the United States

Tbilisi, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) Georgia seeks partners, not guardians, said today the president of the country's parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, commenting on the disagreements in relations between the Caucasian nation and the United States.

In an interview with the Imedi television company, broadcasted on Thursday, the head of Georgia’s highest legislative body said that “his country observes a regrettable attitude towards itself, as it does not consider what is happening to be consistent with a strategic partnership.”

To restore bilateral relations, it is important to stop falsely accusing each other and abandon narratives against the Georgian authorities and people, Papuashvili expressed.

If someone wants to be our gatekeeper and do as they see fit, it will not be so. This has not worked throughout the history of our state, which goes back three thousand years,” the parliamentary leader reminded.

Throughout history, many large states have made the same mistakes in relation to Georgia, understanding friendship as the imposition of their own interests.

We stand for open and conscientious relations. It is impossible for this to continue when we do everything possible for our partners and in return we receive sanctions, including against our police officers, based on false information, and we are not even considered necessary to present evidence,” the parliamentary speaker said.

Papuashvili recalled that the United States had previously sanctioned four Georgian judges. When I asked the former ambassador, Kelly Degnan, why they were sanctioned, she replied that she had read about their transgressions in the Georgian press, he noted.
