FIFA and WHO promote campaign on soccer concussions

Geneva, Sep 18 (Prensa Latina) FIFA and WHO announced on Wednesday the launching of a joint “Suspect and Protect” global campaign, to create public awareness about concussions players suffer during soccer matches.

The initiative’s aims at drawing attention on the seriousness of such accidents, which pose high risk for the life of players on the field, by telling them “It is not worthy to put your life at risk over a match”, as the under title goes.

Experts indicate that detecting the signs and symptoms of a possible concussion and knowing how to protect players can help make soccer safer for everyone.

Suspect and Protect campaign is the result of an extensive consultation process with brain health experts from the Medical Branch of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).

In addition to highlighting that symptom can take up to 72 hours to appear, it provides guidance on how to safely return to sporting activity after a concussion has occurred or is suspected.
