Mexico remembers the Cry of Dolores, encouragement for its independ

Mexico City, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Mexico will be commemorating from today the 214th anniversary of the Cry of Dolores (Grito de Dolores), an event carried out by priest Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 that opened the way for its independence.

The main celebrations will last for two days, including the traditional congregation in the Zócalo for the main rally to be led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, as well as a military parade.

This is the last time that the dignitary will be leading the ceremony and he announced that this year’s ceremony will be very special, will have novelties and will begin with a band from the indigenous communities of Oaxaca.

The festive program includes an official segment and a cultural segment with performances by mariachi groups and other musical ensembles.

A contingent of 12,830 police officers will be deployed this Sunday and tomorrow around the Zócalo as part of the security operation, in charge of guarding and ensuring public tranquility during the festivities.

The patriotic celebrations began on September 2 in Mexico with the traditional procession of merchants who set up shop in the Historic Center of the capital to offer items commemorating the month of independence.

Apart from the “Grito de Dolores”, in that month the country also observes other very important events in its history, such as the sacrifice of the “Niños Héroes de Chapultepec” (Hero Children of Chapultepec); the first interpretation of the national anthem and the beginning of independence itself.
