DPRK and Russia ratify contents of Strategic Partnership Treaty

Pyongyang, Sep 14 (Prensa Latina) The leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, and the secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, reiterated here, their countries'will to defend mutual security interests.

As reported today by the state news agency KCNA, the contents of the Strategic Partnership Treaty signed by Kim and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the latter’s visit to Pyongyang in mid-June were ratified at the meeting.

One of the clauses of the pact states that if one of the parties is pushed into a war situation due to an attack by one or more nations, the other party will provide military and other assistance in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter and the laws of the DPRK and the Russian Federation.

According to KCNA, Kim and Shoigu had a comprehensive exchange of views on deepening bilateral strategic dialogue, strengthening cooperation, defending mutual security interests and the regional and international security situation.

The secretary general of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Committee and the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation reached a satisfactory consensus on these issues, the agency noted.

Kim sent greetings to Putin and wished the Russian people “victory, prosperity and happiness.”
