The state-run ACNC news agency reported today that one of the places where the general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and chairman of the State Affairs Committee visited was the control room of a uranium enrichment facility.
There he called for concentrating efforts on increasing the number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment to increase the production of weapons-grade nuclear materials for self-defense.
Kim said it is imperative for the DPRK to strengthen its nuclear deterrent in the face of growing threats from the U.S. and its allies.
This is the second time in a few days that Kim, who is also the supreme commander of the armed forces, has made such a call, as on Monday, in a speech for the 76th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK, he said that increasing its nuclear capabilities is an act of self-defense.
He clarified, however, that the DPRK is a responsible state and that such actions do not pose a threat to anyone because they are eminently defensive. Without specifying date and place, ACNC also reported that Kim tested the effectiveness of a new type of 600 mm multiple rocket launcher -whose projectiles hit predetermined targets in the East Sea- and inspected a special forces training unit.
