To exercise their democratic right, voters should present identification (ID) documents approved by the Elections Department, Ceylon Today reported.
The Commission also introduced new restrictions to prevent election-related violence.
The newspaper informed that the Elections Department emphasized that expired ID documents and dark or blurry photos and details will not be accepted.
IDs issued by ministries, departments, or government agencies will also not be valid.
The Election Commission bars voters from carrying mobile phones into polling stations following the release of an image of a marked postal ballot paper to social media.
We have observed such a trend of marked ballot papers being released online, so by banning mobile phones at polling stations, we hope to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the process, Commission’s Chairman R. M. A. L. Rathnayake said.
Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe informed that more than 13 million voting cards have been delivered and more of those documents are expected to be sent to the voters this Friday and Saturday.
