The diplomat made his statement during a ceremony held on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Syria.
Santos assured that the two nations face many obstacles and challenges, and stressed the need to join forces in all international forums to defend their sovereignty and the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
“We must unify actions to free international organizations from the clutches of those who wish to exploit them to achieve their own agendas, and this has been successful in many cases, especially what has been happening for years in the as for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons,” Santos stated.
In response, the Syrian Minister of Justice, Ahmed Al-Sayed, commented that the relations between the two countries are distinguished and deep-rooted, and expressed the desire and determination to improve and promote them in all fields for the good and interests of the two countries and peoples.
Al-Sayed called for increasing joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations and blocs, and highlighted Brazil’s position in support of Syria, its territorial integrity and sovereignty, and the need to end the illegal foreign presence.
