India confirms its intention to be a global semiconductor hub

New Delhi, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the connection of the national industry and the government with the purpose of positioning India as a global center for the design, manufacture and development of semiconductors.

Before more than 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers, participating in the Semicon India 2024 event in Uttar Pradesh, Modi highlighted the contribution of national specialists to the world of design and production of this technology.

For the head of government, India counts for the industry’s progress in government policies, the country’s growing manufacturing base and the nation’s aspirational market that is aware of technological trends.

Modi pointed out that the chip industry in India is not just limited to technology, but is a means to fulfill the aspirations of millions of citizens.

He noted that the country’s large digital public infrastructure was built on the basis of these add-ons.

During the coronavirus crisis when the world’s strongest banking systems collapsed, India’s were running continuously; and multiple digital platforms such as the Unified Payment System (UPI), or Rupay Card became part of everyday life in the country, he added.

The prime minister also spoke about the government’s focus on securing critical minerals needed for industry and mentioned the mission to boost domestic production and overseas procurement.
