Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in a press conference that the aim of the training is to improve the joint response to security threats.
The Ministry of National Defense announced last Monday that, according to the annual plan and consensus between Beijing and Moscow, the Russian military would send naval and air forces to participate in the “Northern United-2024” exercise held by China in the sea and airspace corresponding to the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk.
As part of that exercise, the Chinese and Russian naval fleets will also travel to relevant Pacific waters to organize the fifth joint maritime patrol between the two sides, and Beijig will likewise participate in the Russian strategic military exercise “Dayang-2024.”
