Sessions of the Parliamentary Standing Committee begin in China

Beijing, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) The National People's Congress (NPC), China's highest legislative body, began an ordinary session to review a series of bills.

According to the Parliament’s statement, among the issues to be reviewed were the draft National Defense Education Law and the amendment to the Statistics Law.

Chairman of the 14th NPC Standing Committee Zhao Leji led the first plenary meeting of the committee’s 11th session.

The lawmakers reviewed the draft amendment to the National Defense Education Law, the draft of which highlights the need to more effectively incorporate military service education into national defense instruction on campus, among other stipulations.

At another point, the lawmakers deliberated on a draft amendment to the Law on Statistics, which stipulates the promotion of the integration of modern information technologies in statistical work.

The meeting also discussed a draft revision of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases; the revised text improves the provisions on monitoring, notification and early warning of infectious diseases, among others.

During this working day, Chinese parliamentarians deliberated on various topics such as energy, anti-money laundering, public health, retirement, agriculture, and the implementation of the national economic and social development plan since the beginning of this year.
