The head of the Disaster Risk Management Office of this regional state, Gadbel Mun, specified that the damages correspond to the district of Jikawo, where they are working to help the victims of the floods and the overflowing of the Baro river.
Mun said that this follows a warning issued by the Ethiopian Meteorological Institute on August 13, which warned of potential hazards, including river and flash floods due to expected rainfall in several river basins. In the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (southeast), the overflowing of the Omo River caused the displacement of 79,000 residents in the Dassenech district.
Meanwhile, in the Silte area, floods submerged more than 900 houses and displaced more than six thousand people. Reports indicate that heavy rains in Silti and East Silti districts destroyed more than 1,200 hectares of crops, including corn, wheat, mango, papaya and coffee.
