The attacks were intensified after the decision of Minister Alexande de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), to suspend the social network X in the country for failing to comply with court orders and spreading a message inciting hatred against the Supreme Court.
The first strike was directed against the STF, and caused the court system to come offline temporarily.
“On August 29th, the STF systems were targeted by a DDoS (denial of service) hack, that is, thousands of simultaneous accesses in order to unbalance the network and make services unviable,” the statement indicates.
The STF reported that the systems were offline for less than 10 minutes, and “the court’s technical team acted quickly, taking the services off the air and implementing new layers of security, so that all accesses were normalized and there was no operational damage to the court”.
The PF also suffered an attack this Tuesday and, although the services experienced instability, the situation was normalized “and no compromise was detected in the institution’s systems and access to data.”
ANATEL claims to be a “frequent target” of cyber attacks, which intensified after De Moraes’ decision to block access to X on August 30th. “Following the STF’s decision to block X, the agency observed an expected increase in these hacks, which have caused temporary instabilities in its systems and networks,” the office reported.
The entity’s Information Technology team acted to mitigate the impacts and guarantee the security of operations. “The systems were quickly restored, and additional measures were taken to strengthen the network infrastructure,” the Agency informed.
