The event will be held in the city of Kazan from October 22nd to 24th.
The politician assured this Tuesday at a press conference that in addition to the 10 leaders of the member states, those of the Commonwealth of Independent States and others who preside over influential regional associations in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia have also been invited, as well as leaders of countries who desire to become members of the group or seek to engage in any other type of cooperation.
The functionary also noted that most of the events planned by Russia for the first six months of its presidency were carried out successfully and their number amounts to about 160. Russia considers the launch of new interaction formats as an important achievement of its BRICS presidency, he said. “In particular, the first meetings of transport ministers, heads of geological services and the first BRICS forum on nuclear medicine were held and cultural and humanitarian sphere of cooperation is also being actively developed,”.
Ushakov also highlighted the special significance that Russia attaches to the presidency, taking into account the expanded composition of the group.
On January 1st, Moscow assumed the rotating presidency of the group for 2024, which began with the admission of new members.
Russia plans to organize more than 250 events in 11 regions this year during its presidency.
The BRICS was initially made integrated by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and was expanded this year with the accession of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia and Iran. The bloc now accounts for almost half of the world’s population, 40 percent of global oil production and about 25 percent of goods exports.
