Bolivia grants credits to young entrepreneurs

La Paz, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) Starting today, young entrepreneurs in Bolivia will receive support from the Emprende Bolivia Credit Fund (Focred), created by the Productive Development Bank (BDP) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Supported by a 150-million boliviano (21 million dollars), this fund makes loans available at a 7,5 per cent interest rate.

Called “Emprender Joven”del BDP (BDP’s Young Entrepreneur), the project was announced this Monday by President Luis Arce, in a special ceremony at the Casa Grande del Pueblo (presidential headquarters), in the presence of national government and legislative authorities, executives of the financial system and young entrepreneurs.

“Assuming that today’s youth will gradually become more entrepreneurial and less dependent on a job, it is important that the State provides them with the conditions they need to unleash such economic movement (…)”, said the Arce.

He insisted on the importance of giving certainty and a tool that allows this sector of society to emerge and develop.

According to the president, this is one of the measures he announced in his message on August 6 of this year with the objective of activating a policy aimed at solving and improving the possibilities of young people in the country.

Back then, Arce referred to a global trend that involves the so-called “generation Z”, which tends to stop being employed and starts something of its own.

The president of the Board of Directors of the BDP, Denisse Paz, explained that the Emprender Joven of the BDP comes from a fund that seeks to reach all young people who want to start something of their own.

She explained that the credits will be granted by this financial entity to young people from 18 to 35 years old, professionals and non-professionals, who promote self-employment and contribute to the development of Bolivia.
