The workers of the institution are also developing scientific programs that contribute to protecting the environment and advancing food sovereignty, for which they maintain close ties with the Máximo Gómez Báez University, in Ciego de Ávila.
Ciba’s director, Yamilé Jiménez, explained how they are participating in international projects aimed at promoting the study of adaptation solutions to minimize vulnerabilities in the face of climate change in coastal communities, which are being threatened by rising sea levels and extreme hydrometeorological phenomena.
To this aim, Jiménez said, our experts are training residents and managers in various topics related to decision-making, enabling them to add the risk perspective in territorial development strategies, so as to create effective plans to deal with climate change.
The institution’s deputy director of research, Javier González, pointed out that a group of young people have dedicated their degree theses to topics related to sustainable development in Agriculture.
Regarding this, he explained that Ciba contributes to the diversification of crops, as a response to the food sovereignty program and contributes to the productive increase in sunflower cultivation, through the technology of Beneficial Native Microorganisms.
The scientific center also contributes to the conservation and protection of soil, by resorting to agroecological practices, thus helping to increase the production of food of animal origin and local production.
