Egypt criticized Israeli offensive against West Bank

Cairo, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) Egypt is very concerned about the repercussions of the ongoing Israeli military offensive against the occupied West Bank, after almost 11 months of war in the Gaza Strip, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

During a meeting with Sigrid Kaag, UN Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, Abdelatty highlighted the urgent need to address the military escalation in the West Bank. He also urged Israel to fulfill its responsibilities as an occupying power and guarantee the security of the Palestinians while condemning the detentions, torture and attacks against those people.

The minister stressed the need of easing the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza through Egypt and to ensure that the relevant procedures are completed quickly, free of any obstacles imposed by Israel.

In turn, the coordinator explained her recent efforts to facilitate the entry and distribution of humanitarian aid to the Strip, including her participation in the polio vaccination campaign.

In parallel, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry denounced in a statement the Israeli offensive launched last week against the West Bank and its scorched earth policy, and criticized the excessive use of force, extrajudicial killings and the destruction of roads and civil infrastructure. “We warn against the dangers of the scorched earth policy, which aims to undermine all components of the future Palestinian state and eliminate what remains of hope for the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights,” the Ministry stated.
