DRC received kits for Mpox treatment

Kinshasa, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) began the distribution of a consignment of medicines and kits for the treatment of patients with Monkeypox (Mpox).

The kits arrived on Thursday and are destined for 11 of DRC’s 26 provinces: Kinshasa, Equateur, Mongala, Sud Ubangi, North Kivu, South Kivu, Tshopo, Tshuapa, Sankuru, Maniema and Maï-Ndombe, according to Agence Congolaise de Presse.

Health Minister Roger Samuel Kamba called for everything possible to be done to ensure that the batch of medicines and infection prevention and control (IPC) kits reach beneficiaries as soon as possible in order to save lives.

In 2024, DRC has detected 17,801 suspected cases of Mpox and 610 deaths, for a case fatality rate of 3,4%.

In the week of August 12-18 alone, the country recorded 1,372 suspected cases, including 200 confirmed cases and 35 deaths.
