Cuba and Dom. Rep. to strengthen collaboration in water management

Santo Domingo, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) A delegation from the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) of Cuba is visiting the Dominican Republic, where it is developing a work agenda aimed at strengthening collaboration in the sustainable management of water resources, official sources reported on Monday.

The executive director of the Dominican Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), Olmedo Caba, welcomed the Cuban delegation, made up of Fermín Ernesto Sarduy, director of International Relations and Collaboration; and Eduardo Loriga, of Hydraulic Development, the website of the Cuban Presidency published.

The Cuban delegation includes Daniel González and Gisel Pérez, from the company Exportaciones Cubahidráulica, who will work with a technical team from Indrhi throughout the week, along with their compatriots.

Caba highlighted the importance of this collaboration and noted that the visit of the Cuban counterparts is an invaluable opportunity to share experiences and knowledge that will contribute to the continuous improvement of water management in both countries.

He explained that the meeting is part of the work program signed in June 2024, as a result of the follow-up mission to a memorandum of understanding penned in March 2023 and which reinforces the strategic alliance between both entities to optimize water management in the two countries.

During the meeting, Sarduy highlighted the strategic value of this collaboration and expressed that this link will allow them to face the challenges together to achieve a more efficient and sustainable management of this resource.

The agenda consists of technical visits to various departments of INDRHI, such as the Center for Sustainable Management of Water Resources in the Island States of the Caribbean (CEHICA), the interactive Water Room, as well as its Hydrology and Geomatics departments.

In addition, they will travel to the Monte Grande dam and the Ysura canal, in Azua, according to the same source.

The Cuban delegation will meet with directors of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA) and with the Commission for the Promotion of the Technification of the National Irrigation System (TNR), and will conclude the visit with a closing event where proposals will be defined for the formation of the 2024-2025 Work Plan, which would be formalized in Havana next September.

At this meeting, the head of INDRHI was accompanied by Juan Carlos Nova, director of Operations; Juan Saldaña, Director of Planning for Institutional Development, and José Cedeño, in charge of International Cooperation at Indrhi.
