Local media reported that last week, several citizens of the city went to hospital facilities due to intoxication with the same beverage, and the number has been growing ever since.

So far, 14 patients remain in critical condition on ventilators in the intensive care unit of the Nopparat Rajathanee hospital.

Others affected are at risk of kidney failure and blindness, the institution’s Medical Services Department warned.

Methanol is a substance not fit for human consumption; therefore, its ingestion can cause different failures to the body and even death.

The Thai Police is investigating the cases of intoxication and has so far arrested three people for the crime of manufacturing alcoholic beverages without the required permits. The ongoing investigation covers a factory in Bangkok where four tanks containing about 200 liters of adulterated liquor were seized.
