India and Brazil hold ninth Joint Commission meeting

New Delhi, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar and his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, who is visiting India, will preside over the Ninth Meeting of the Joint Commission, to review the progress of bilateral cooperation.

Minister Vieira arrived in New Delhi last Sunday to co-chair the event, which is key in the ties between India, a member of the Troika of the bloc together with South Africa, and Brazil, which holds the G20 Presidency this year.

Both foreign ministers will discuss, among other aspects, ways to carry forward the key results inherited from New Delhi’s leadership of the G20 in 2023, according to a recent statement from the Indian Foreign Ministry.

As for bilateral ties, this year’s bilateral meeting is expected to focus on deepening cooperation in sectors such as space, aviation, biofuels and defense technology.

According to the specialized press, it is also likely that both Foreign Ministers will analyze new ways to improve trade and investment flows, promote technological exchanges, foster closer ties between the scientific communities of their countries, and explore new opportunities for collaboration in the digital economy, green energy and innovation.

New Delhi perceives Vieira’s visit to India as an opportunity to further strengthen the strategic partnership established in 2006 and also at the regional and multilateral levels.

Indian authorities also consider the visit significant, highlighting Brazil’s key role in the international economic agenda as a member of the G20 troika.
