Local media highlighted Monday that most of the violent events in the city, which belongs to the province of Guayas, occurred in the Nueva Prosperina district where the police have just presented a strategic plan against extortion.
According to official figures, Guayaquil is the Ecuadorian city with the most murders registered so far in 2024.
In this context, President Daniel Noboa signed a decree on Sunday in which he asked law enforcement to update the “operational strategies to enforce the law, as an effective response to terrorist groups that use new techniques to intimidate the country,” he said.
Through a press release from the Presidential Communications Secretariat, the President said that the changes must be made within five days.
